Chadderton Goods: Looking back towards Middleton Junction, along the trackbed of the Chadderton Goods branch, in December 2024. Behind the camera is the site of the goods yard, later a coal concentration depot, that is now covered by housing. The trackbed itself is now a public bridleway running down to Middleton Junction, less than a mile away.
Chadderton Goods: When the Chadderton Goods coal and mineral yard became a Coal Concentration Depot the number of sidings was reduced from six to two and coal handling equipment introduced. This is the unloading pit and conveyor, just beyond the Hunt Lane bridge by the rail entrance, looking towards the buffers in January 1986. There was a resident industrial diesel shunter. Plenty of coal can be seen in the various piles on the left side of the picture but rail traffic would cease with closure of the depot in 1988. The yard is now a housing estate. Chadderton Goods: Chadderton Goods, a short L&YR branch off the Middleton Junction to Oldham Werneth route, was opened in 1914. It never carried passengers but was kept busy serving mills and factories around Chadderton. As built there were six sidings on the south side of a coal and mineral yard but no goods shed. Later it became a two-siding Coal Concentration Depot, surviving until 1988. In 1991 the tracks were lifted and the site turned over to modern housing but the Hunt Lane bridge that marked the rail entrance to Chadderton Goods survives, seen here from the trackbed path in December 2024
Garry Viaduct: A £1.25 million repair project ramps up on Garry Viaduct. Network Rail is reminding the community of overnight road closures to allow repairs to Garry Viaduct (off the B847), between Calvine and Struan near Blair Atholl on the Highland Main Line.
