Tanygrisiau: Tanygrisiau was the terminus of the the Festiniog Railway from Porthmadog until May 1982 when the line was extended to Blaenau. The station itself only opened in June 1978 on a different alignment and location to the original which had closed in 1939. The locomotive is 'Linda' and the shot dates to September 1978.
Treharris: 37696 runs round its train of empty mgr at Deep Navigation colliery, which was situated at Treharris, in 1991. This mine was often trefered to as Ocean by the locals I met. Typical gloom in the valleys, we often wondered if the sun ever came out here, but it was January.
Brinnington: 150104, on a Piccadilly to New Mills Central stopper, pulls away from Brinnington heading to the next stop at Bredbury on 15th January 2025. The station opened in December 1977 to serve nearby housing developments.
Brinnington: This 120m span bridge over the M60 Orbital lies between Brinnington and Bredbury on the Ashburys to Romiley route. 195127 crosses the motorway with a Piccadilly to Sheffield stopping service, via the Hope Valley, on 15th January 2025. The 2,700 tons structure was built in 1988, being assembled alongside the railway and then slid onto new abutments before the motorway route was excavated underneath.
Bo'ness: National Coal Board, East Fife Area, Hunslet 0-6-0ST no. 19, in the guise of WD 75254, stands at Bo'ness. It is about to uncouple and run round its train and return to Birkhill on 13th August 2012.
Haymarket MPD: 40052 comes off shed and heads for Waverley. Seen from the cab of withdrawn 40162 in 1983.
Innerpeffray: The former station at Innerpeffray seen across a field from the south in 2023. After closure of the line the building became a house, renamed Peveryl House.
Ayr: B1 4-6-0 No 61342 is taking water at Ayr station on 10 April 1966 whilst on the 'Easter Rambler No 5'. Also in the photo are two Class 126 DMUs and the ill fated Station Hotel.
