Cairn Siding: View south east of the road access to Cairn Siding and the girder bridge carrying a minor road over the line, taken in 1996.
Britannia: Since my last visit to the old line at Britannia in 2009 [[23306]] the unofficial trackbed path has been upgraded to a fully accessible and surfaced route. The old tramway bridge, which carried an incline from Lee Colliery on the moor, still spans the route, with the cycle path passing through around fifteen feet above the level of the original line. The main line opened in 1881, but the incline was shown as closed and lifted by the turn of the century so the bridge was not used for the coal traffic for long.
Crewe: Orange triplets on the Crewe Avoiding Lines, on 17th February 2025, as Freightliner 66503 drags 90013 and 90016 underneath Crewe station working 0H30 1307hrs Basford Hall Yard to Trafford Park FLT. There was at one time talk of Freightliner withdrawing their class 90 fleet but, 37 years after being built, they remain a valuable asset for the operator.
Ebbw Vale: Plenty of steel coil at Ebbw Vale in September 1996. A Class 60 is in the yard among the long lines of wagons.
Harringay: 700148, Thameslink from Peterborough to Horsham, passing Harringay station in the north London suburbs, at 12.42 on Friday, 17th January 2025.
Keswick: Passenger services came to an end between Penrith and Keswick on 6th March 1972 and this shot was taken earlier that year on what would have been my last visit by train to the town. The railway and the 2 car DMU look a bit lost in what had been a large station but at least it remained more or less intact until the end.
Beamish Open Air Museum: Tram No.513, constructed by Charles Roberts & Co of Wakefield (now Bombardier) between 1950-1952 to a design by Sheffield Transport. It only worked for eight years until 1960 when Sheffield closed its tramway system. Picture taken in the Main Street of Beamish Open Air Museum in May 1986.
Brinnington: Brinnington, looking towards Bredbury and Romiley, between trains on 15th January 2025. The station opened as late as 1977 and has an operational ticket office at street level. In the distance, just above the overbridge, the elevated structure of the Brinnington Bridge, carrying the line over the M60 Motorway, can be seen.
Abercairny: This bridge carried the Crieff-Perth line over a road half a mile west of Abercairny station. The view looks east. The west abutment is stone and east is in brick. The DfT has given the bridge the reference AVB/18. The bridge was removed in February 1970, along with that at Innerpeffray.
Sutton Coldfield: 730007 arrives at Sutton Coldfield, from Lichfield Trent Valley, on a cross city service via New Street on 15th January 2025.
