Respryn: 45144 at Respryn Bridge, near Bodmin Road, with the 1345hrs Penzance to Bristol service on 3rd October 1983. A lovely radio mast has grown in the field by the bridge here in more recent times, ruining the standard picture. Always best as a morning location before the sun moved around. On this day the sun was behind a cloud as otherwise it would be straight into the lens. Peaks worked into Cornwall from 1970 to late 1985 and were very much part of the local motive power scene.

Glasson Dock: Although the swing bridge at Glasson only operates occasionally, it sits directly above the lock linking the canal basin (off picture right) with the tidal dock. Consequently, when a boat is using the lock the road which links the two sides of the village is closed for between 30 and 60 minutes. This view looks north on 1st March 2025, when two seagoing vessels were locking down to catch the high tide.

Worcester Shrub Hill: Worcester Shrub Hill, during a photo stop by UK Railtours' "Shakespearean Sonnet" railtour, at 11.30 on Saturday, 22nd February 2025. This station was opened by the Oxford, Worcester and Wolverhampton Railway on 5th October 1850 and rebuilt in 1865 by an architect named Edward Wilson. It once boasted a glass trainshed, which was removed in 1936.

Stainmore Summit: The remains of Stainmore Summit signal box photographed in 1970. Closure of the line between Barnard Castle and Merrygill Quarry near Kirkby Stephen East was effective from passage of the last train on 22nd January 1962. For a shot of the box on that day see image [[28249]]

Mickleover: This station used to be an outstation (as it were) of BR Research at Derby. This may explain the presence of a short length of track with unusual concrete inserts. View looks towards Etwall.

Huntingtower Siding: View west to Huntingtower Siding from Almondbank. This was a public goods siding located where the white house now stands just above the centre of the view. The former route of the railway remains as a crop mark running up the centre of this view, the line having been ploughed out here.
