Chester: 45146 passing Chester Dee Bridge, with the 0744 Manchester Victoria to Bangor service, on 9th June 1984. This was once a solid Class 40 turn.
Greenford [LPTB]: As there are four workings each hour, with a little more time available to me I'm sure I could have got the Greenford shuttle DMU on the bay platform incline in the same picture as a passing Underground train. This Central Line service for West Ruislip has crossed the Network Rail tracks and is dropping down to Greenford station on 11th March 2025.
Upminster Bridge: Two trains of LU S7 stock on District Line services at Upminster Bridge station, looking east, at 11.28 on Tuesday, 11th February 2025. On the left, the train has only a short way to go to its terminus at Upminster while, on the right, the train is just one stop into its long journey, still with many miles to go to its destination at Richmond.
Towiemore Halt: A shot thought to date from 1974 of the remains of Towiemore. The halt initially opened for distillery workers but became public in 1937. Passenger services ended on 6th May 1968 and over time the structure and platform were removed but in 2015 a new station was built and is now served by by the Keith & Dufftown Railway.
Buchanan Street: A very smart A4 No 60019 'Bittern' is preparing to head out of Glasgow Buchanan Street station on the 'Last A4 to Aberdeen' special on 30 September 1966. Also in the photo are Class 47 No D1623 and the Pinxton power station.
Loughborough: Looking northwards at Loughborough, from where the embankment was moved across the Midland Main Line to allow easier access to the Ruddington line. The original and future paths of the GC can be seen. The abutment on the left was the north side of a farm track accommodation bridge. That track was upgraded into Railway Terrace, now leading to a waste recycling facility, which means the GCR must allow 5.3m clearance for bin lorries. The new bridge over the MML is on the right, slightly SE of the original trackbed.
Huntingtower Siding: Huntingtower Siding was between Almondbank and Ruthven Road stations, the later of which did not have a goods yard. This view looks west showing the considerably enlarged crossing keeper's cottage. The running line was to the right of the road and siding to its left, approached from the Almondbank direction.
Lytham: Northern 150103 prepares to depart the seaside town of Lytham on Thursday 10th April 2025, working 2S69 1548 Preston to Blackpool South. Lytham station is now a shadow of its former self with the large station building now a restaurant and the single running line hidden away behind. The former Preston-bound platform is now home to the Lytham Station Community Garden.
