Brunswick: 777002, Merseyrail Northern Line to Hunts Cross, arriving at Brunswick station, which only opened in 1998, at 11.16 on Tuesday, 29th April 2025. A new station, to be called Liverpool Baltic, between here and Liverpool Central, has been given the go-ahead and expected to open sometime in 2027.

Buxton: DB 66134 is dead in tow on the rear of a train of empties from Ashburys to Dowlow Briggs Sidings as the head of the train joins the Hindlow Branch at Buxton Signal Box. The Up Relief Sidings in the foreground are level at this point, accentuating the steep gradient on the line from Whaley Bridge, used exclusively by passenger trains with this one daily exception. The GBRf van by the sidings is used by a travelling shunter and indicates a train is expected. That loco will run round after arriving over the conventional freight route via Peak Forest.

Rathen: A GNS wagon label, dating from 1915, for wagon No. 16666 to be picked up and delivered to Rathen, near Fraserburgh. The originating station is less easy to decipher - it could be (Aberdeen) Waterloo but other suggestions are welcome.

Welshpool Raven Square: Now then, we've watered the engine, let's water the crew. 699.01 'Sir Drefaldwyn' sounds Welsh, but the number is perhaps on the high side for a preserved line. Presumably that is because the engine was built in France in 1944 for use by the occupying German Army.

Kilknockie Viaduct: The five arch Kilknockie Viaduct as seen from the south. To the left the former line curved progressively round to the north, passing Balmanno, to Bridge of Earn. To the right the line run also turned as it passed south through Glenfarg North Tunnel to reach Glen Farg.

Carlisle: The OLE (Banana) inspection train idling in the loops at Carlisle after checking a problem with the down line overhead wires from Lancaster which led to a major disruption for over two hours to North bound trains on 15th May 2025, including ours which was held at Crewe. On the front is 43257 and 'Tail End Charlie' was 43251.
