This substantial station closed in 1968. The station building remains standing and there are portions of platforms. It was the terminus of the line from Alnmouth and, from 1887, the line from Coldstream (the junction was south of the station.)
The station building has a large high quality bookshop.

Due to the construction of the A1 to the east of the terminus the Aln Valley Railway have had to build a new terminus to the east of the A1 for their line running east to Alnmouth.

05/09/1887 | Cornhill Branch (North Eastern Railway) The Cornhill Branch (Coldstream to Alnwick) is opened throughout and for passengers with the opening of Wooperton to Alnwick. For the extra traffic Alnwick station re-built. |
