Opened on the West Highland Railway. The signal box here controlled the junction between the Banavie [1st] branch (closed) and the West Highland's extension west to Mallaig (open). Both lines were single track.
The signal box here closed in 1921, replaced by a ground frame. The branch closed to passengers in 1939 and completely in 1951.
The formation can be traced but is very overgrown.
Note by John McGregor:
Pringle suggested that a 'double line' (in effect a loop?) might become necessary at the new Banavie Junction. I canā??t think that this was ever mentioned again?
To the north is Neptune's Staircase, a series of connected locks on the Caledonian Canal.
