This was a double track girder viaduct over the South Calder Water to the north of the Ravenscraig Steel Works. It connected the works to the slag processing and balling plant to the north (there had also been a scrap processing area).
The bridge survived the closure of the works and its demolition, but was demolished in the early 2000s.
Just to the east is the Calder Viaduct [Carfin] on the Wishaw Deviation (Caledonian Railway) and just to the west the a surprising survivor, an old road bridge. This bridge, at a much lower level, is the Carfin Bridge which carried Carfin Road north-south through the area before the works was built.
To the west much of the South Calder Water was culverted, which allowed the slag area to expand over many years. Carfin House was once located here.
