Carfin Colliery Signal Box (1880-1957)

Opened on the Wishaw Deviation (Caledonian Railway).

Description

This signal box controlled access to the Jenny Lind Composition Works (which had tramway running to the east under the railway to Cleland Colliery Pit No 3) and Carfin Colliery Pits Nos 6 and 7.

The box was was on the west side of the Wishaw Deviation north of Calder Viaduct [Carfin and south of Holytown Junction. The siding ran off south parallel to the main line and had approach from the north. It led to a weighing machine and reversing sidings for the works and colliery.

The box closed in1957 with the opening of Ravenscraig No 2 Signal Box.

A temporary box existed to the north in Carfin Cutting in 1912-13.
