This is a relatively new two platform station built to serve the expanding town of Dunfermline and its Queen Margaret Hospital. There is a car park on the north side.
The station was opened close to the former Townhill Junction, just to its west. The platforms are built on either side of the Dunfermline and Queensferry Railway. The car park occupies the site of the former Dunfermline Branch lines, the last stub of which was lifted to allow construction of the car park. The overbridge at east end of the station betrays that it once crossed two double track lines.
The hospital is uphill to the north west.
