Description

This goods yard was south of Inverness station and approached from the east. Lines fanned out to serve a goods shed and loading banks (in the north/west part of the site alongside the passenger station) and livestock sidings with loading banks (in the southern portion of the yard alongside Inverness livestock auction market).

Livestock traffic ceased in the 1960s. Other traffic continued, notably North Sea Oil related traffic in the 1970s - such was the volume of this traffic that Blair Atholl to Dalwhinnie was to be redoubled and loops put back in at Kincraig, Moy and Slochd Summit.

In 1989 a siding finishing on a ramp was set up after the Ness Viaduct collapse for loading the then new Sprinter trains onto low loaders. The units were unloaded at Invergordon.

By this time much of the yard was lifted. Timber continued to be handled and sidings were used to stable overflows of carriages. The yard did not survive much longer.
