Description
This is a two platform station. The main station building is on the northbound platform. The station is in Kinghorn, just above Kinghorn Beach.
The station building is of two storeys, similar to that at Springfield. The architect is through to be David Bell. A wooden waiting room extends the building on the platform side. A lattice footbridge links the platforms with steps down to Harbour Road as well as the southbound platform. The timber waiting room on the southbound platform, which was cantilevered out from the platform and overhanging Harbour Road, removed in 2007. With its high location passengers on the southbound platform have an unusually good view over the sea.
The goods yard was on the west side of the line, approached from the north by reversal. The signal box was located at the north end of the station. A long siding led from the goods yard through a tunnel and on to a reversing spur. From here the branch (Binnend Oilworks Railway) ran north and then west to Binnend Oilworks.
The signal box closed in 1967.
Kinghorn Viaduct is just north of the station and Kinghorn Tunnel is a little to the south west. The Abden Works, a shipyard, was just to the north of the viaduct.
The station building has been converted Artline Kinghorn with an art studio on the upper floor and gallery on the ground floor.
