This level crossing was on the Caledonian Railway's 1880 line from Motherwell Junction to the Dalzell Steel Works.
There was a signal box on the north side of the road, west side of the line.
The line over the crossing was closed in 1979/80 (probably 1979 as the box closed that year). Within the works the line remained, now a headshunt used to reach various parts o the works. This trackwork survived until the closure of the Ravenscraig Steel Works, the headshunt no longer necessary to bring concast slabs from Ravenscraig to Dalzell for rolling.
