Description

This junction is south of Perth station and north of the Edinburgh Road bridge. It is, today, where the up and down Dundee lines begin.

Historically it was a more complicated junction. It is where a northbound goods loop ran to the south end of the station, Perth Railway Works was on the east side and Perth South Shed to the south. The original box here was called 'Engine Sheds Junction' and opened in 1874. Another box called 'Workshops Junction' was to the north - this was either replaced by Edinburgh Road Bridge Junction Signal Box or, less likely as it was further away, St Leonards Bridge Junction Signal Box.

This layout was at its height after the 1886 rebuilding of Perth station.

To the south, going from west to east, the lines were
- direct access from the goods lines to Perth South Shed at without fouling the main line
- the main line south to Friarton Tunnel - the north end of Friarton Yard
To the north, from west to east, the lines were
- the goods line north to Dovecotland Junction (and after 1962 Balhousie Junction)
- the main lines north to Perth station, four lines with the western two being for the north and eastern two for the Dundee route
- three sidings on the east side for Perth Railway Works
The signal box, Edinburgh Road Bridge, was on the west side of the line north of the bridge itself. This closed in 1962, replaced by the new Perth Power Box.
