Description

This was a single track seven girder viaduct crossing the Powmillon Burn.

This was the northern of two viaducts built for the Mid Lanark Lines (Caledonian Railway) east of the junction at Strathaven Central. This viaduct was built on the link north to the older Hamilton and Strathaven Railway. A second viaduct on the link, Strathaven Viaduct [North], was a little further north.

The line north climbed to Strathaven North, the rising gradient being obvious in a broadside view compared with the Powmillon Viaduct [South] on the Stonehouse [Lanarkshire] route.

The viaduct survived closure of the line in 1953. Track remained until 1959.

Both Powmillon viaducts were demolished and nothing remains of either viaduct.
