This yard and locomotive shed replaced the original Fort William Shed when the line was cut back to the present Fort William station.
The depot catered for diesel locomotives and the steam engines used in summer for 'The Jacobite' service to Mallaig as well as the carriage stock for the Jacobite.
The shed building has been demolished. The sidings remain in use for locomotives and carriages and occasional goods use.
