27 March 2008. EWS, part of the DB Schenker organisation, today welcomes the announcement from Transport Scotland that the Stirling - Alloa - Kincardine rail link in central Scotland will be fully commissioned by 31 March 2008, with normal scheduled freight and passenger train services operating from 19 May 2008. Once the route has been fully commissioned, EWS will introduce a comprehensive driver training programme to enable freight trains to be taken over the route once the new line is opened. This will see coal trains switched from the existing Forth Bridge route to the new route via Alloa. These trains will be switched in a gradual manner in the weeks following the official opening date, and other freight trains will also be able to use the new rail route via Alloa. The re-opening of the rail link from Stirling Alloa Kincardine will help provide much needed additional rail capacity across the rail network in central Scotland.
