Rail services resume after floods [BBC News]

The line between Dundee and Aberdeen reopens, and train services resume, after work to clear a landslip and flooding ends. Network Rail engineers pumped flood waters of up to 5ft in depth from the track at Inverkeilor, near Montrose. Debris was also taken from the line at Carmont, near Stonehaven.

A shunting disaster. Not long after I had moved to Stonehaven in 1995, there was a bit of shunting taking place up the embankment and a wagon was shunted down to the buffer stop, which failed catastrophically. The bolts were so badly corroded, they just could not take the loading. The wagon came down the embankment leaving the scars on the A957 Slug Road to Banchory. Fortunately there were no cars or pedestrians passing at the time. The fence was replaced by NR a year or so back and has nothing to do with the original incident.

Glad to see the Azuma now up this way. This was its inaugural journey from Aberdeen. There seemed to be some sort of celebration party, on the other side, that came out onto the platform when the train stopped and boarded again.
