Transport Minister Jenny Gilruth today officially opened the recently complete £8million redevelopment of Aberdeen railway station. Ms Gilruth joined Alex Hynes, Scotland's Railway Managing Director, for the event. The redevelopment project has been delivered by Morrison Construction over two years, with the final stage of work seeing the relocation and refurbishment of the ticket office and first-class lounge.

The concerns of Fifers over proposed cuts to rail services have been raised with ScotRail chief Alex Hynes. As reported previously in the Press, the alterations would see the removal of almost all direct trains between the two sides of the Fife Circle with a change at Inverkeithing required.

The new managing director of the ScotRail Alliance has been announced.
Alex Hynes, who is currently managing director at Arriva Rail North, will replace Phil Verster who is leaving the role to take up a new job in England. Mr Verster had faced pressure in recent months because of ScotRail's failure to meet targets on punctuality and reliability.
