A heritage railway line badly damaged by two landslips has reopened following repairs costing £1m. As a result of collapsed embankments at Gotherington and Winchcombe, the 12 mile-long (19 km) Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway has faced disruptions for three years. The repairs were funded by an emergency appeal launched two years ago.

A heritage railway line badly damaged by two landslips has reached its £1m emergency fundraising target.
Two major embankment collapses left the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway facing repair costs of more than £670k and major disruptions to its service. Music producer Pete Waterman, who is chairman of the heritage railway, launched the £1m appeal two years ago. It is hoped that trains will be running again between Toddington and Winchcombe within two months. Work has begun to repair a heritage railway line embankment in Gloucestershire which collapsed in January 2011.
The embankment just north of Winchcombe on the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway (GWR) suffered a landslip caused by bad weather. The volunteer group which operates the line has now embarked on the £670,000 repair project. The work is expected to take about four months to complete. The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway has reopened between Cheltenham and Winchcombe. The track was damaged by a landslip last April which cost nearly £1m to repair. A second landslip occurred at a different embankment in January.
