The drive by the rail and road freight industry to achieve net zero status has been highlighted during the COP26 climate change summit this week.
The move towards reducing emissions across the sectors supply chains in Scotland and the UK has been showcased at a three-day event, titled Low Carbon Logistics, which concluded on Transport Day at the conference yesterday. GB Railfreight has named a Class 92 electric locomotive 'Billy Stirling' during a ceremony at Mossend International Railfreight Park (MIRP) as part of COP26 in Glasgow. Located next to the electrified West Coast Main Line, MIRP is Scotland's largest international multi-modal rail freight park and welcomes up to 16 trains per day.

An event raising awareness about the transition to Net Zero in the Rail and Road Freight industries will begin on Monday 8th November. Taking place during COP26 and finishing on Transport Day at the global conference, Low Carbon Logistics is a three-day event to showcase the drive to net zero emission supply chains taking place in Scotland and the UK.

The development of a major new low carbon, multi-modal rail freight facility located in the heart of Scotland has taken a significant step forward with the laying of a private rail track to facilitate construction. Once complete, Mossend International Railfreight Park (MIRP) will provide 2.2 million sq ft of logistics space and Scotland's first 775-metre electric rail terminal.

The Scottish Government has launched its Green Investment Portfolio inviting investors to get behind more than £1 billion of low carbon, eco-friendly and recycling opportunities. ... David Stirling, director of Mossend International Railfreight Park operator Peter D Stirling Ltd, said: 'We are fully supportive of the Scottish Governments target to achieve net zero emissions by 2045 and indeed are contributing to this by providing Scotlands largest zero-carbon, multi-modal rail freight park.
