Bathgate Junction: The light was very poor on the approach to Bathgate (now Newbridge) Junction on Sunday 7 March 1971 necessitating the use of a rather slow shutter speed - which is only too obvious here. The train, a diverted Glasgow Queen Street (Low Level on this occasion) - Edinburgh Waverley service, is about to join the E&G main line eastbound towards Edinburgh. See image [[35524]]

Bamber Bridge: Bamber Bridge SB, relegated to the status of a gate box back in the 1970s with the Preston area resignalling has in the last few weeks received some extra support in the shape of a steel frame. Covent Garden: Exterior (exit only) of Covent Garden station, LUL Piccadilly Line, on 7th March 2020. Opened by the Great Northern, Piccadilly & Brompton Railway with the original section of the line from Finsbury Park to Hammersmith on 15th December 1906, it was designed by Leslie W. Green, the London Underground's Chief Architect of the Edwardian period who died in 1908, aged only 34. In 1958, London Transport (as it then was) wanted to close this station completely but it was reprieved, although it was closed on Sundays for many years, but is now open full time again. It is only 280 yards from Leicester Square station, the next Piccadilly Line station when heading towards Heathrow or Uxbridge.

Charing Cross [CCR]: The main frontage of Charing Cross station, London, on 7th March 2020, just before lockdown. Situated at the western end of the thoroughfare called Strand (NOT The Strand), it was opened by the South Eastern Railway in 1864 with the extension of the line from London Bridge. In 1958, it was suggested that the station should be closed and the railway bridge across the Thames with the Hungerford pedestrian bridge alongside be converted into a road bridge but these plans were rightly condemned. The narrow and by then quite shabby pedestrian bridge disappeared at the Millennium and was replaced by two new footbridges, either side of the railway bridge, much wider and a lot easier to navigate, although I remember the old one well.
