Whifflet Extension (Glasgow, Garnkirk and Coatbridge Railway)

Introduction

This line extended the Glasgow, Garnkirk and Coatbridge Railway south through Coatbridge to meet the Wishaw and Coltness Railway in Whifflet, which bypassed the Monkland and Kirkintilloch Railway and the numerous sidings and curves in the Gartsherrie and Coatbridge area. The line remains open today, a double track main line, part of the West Coast Main Line.
