This junction is south of Dalmeny station. Lines from Edinburgh (Saughton Junction) and the west (Winchburgh Junction) meet before passing through Dalmeny station and crossing the Forth Bridge.
The signal box was to the east of the junction.
A little to the south the Edinburgh route joined the South Queensferry Branch (North British Railway) at Dalmeny South Junction before leaving it a little further to the south to continue to Saughton Junction. The older line had been doubled through this joint section (this section had contained Dalmeny [1st] station. It continued north from Dalmeny South Junction round the rear of the Dalmeny North Junction box to South Queensferry [1st]. To the south it continued to Ratho (Low Level).
The box was renamed Dalmeny Junction on closure of Dalmeny South Junction signal box in 1925.
The Ratho route closed in 1966 and the South Queensferry [1st] route closed in 1968. The junction was renamed Dalmeny Junction.
The signal box closed in 1979, taken over by the Edinburgh Signalling Centre.
The Winchburgh Junction fork has been modified to create a single lead junction. To the north the line to the south end of Dalmeny is a quadrupled track line.
