Although the site of Guthrie station, just to the west of the junction, has been largely landscaped (except for some buildings and a loading bank), the junction remains recognisable.
Both the line from Forfar [1st] to Arbroath (Catherine Street) (the 1838 Arbroath and Forfar Railway) and the 1848 Aberdeen Railway were double track and a loop existed on the southbound (up) side of the junction which came from the Arbroath route continued on to Guthrie station to the branch face of its island platform, allowing movements between the Arbroath line and station without fouling the Aberdeen main line. There was a pumping house in the 'V' of the junction.
The junction box (1880) was on the down side of the junction near the (now removed) road underline bridge. This junction allowed trains to run from Aberdeen to Forfar [2nd] ]] using the re-gauged older line.
The Arbroath route, as far as Leysmill, was singled in 1936. The northbound line was lifted.
It was closed completely in 1965 and Guthrie station and the junction box also closed, creating a long section between Auldbar Road to Glasterlaw.
The Strathmore Main Line closed completely in 1967 and track lifting was rapid.
