Opened on the Great North of Scotland Railway. This two platform through station was opened with the Denburn Valley Line (Great North of Scotland Railway). It replaced Kittybrewster [1st], which was to its immediate east and located on the Aberdeen Waterloo branch. The line was opened as a double track between Denburn Junction and Kittybrewster Junction in 1867.
'Kittybrewster' signal box opened in 1867 with this station. It closed in 1883 when replaced by north (at Kittybrewster Junction and south (at south end of the station) boxes.
From the southern end of the station a goods only loop crossed the Aberdeen Waterloo Extension (Great North of Scotland Railway) to serve Kittybrewster Yard to the east of the station - this reconnected to the main line at Kittybrewster Junction controlled by Kittybrewster North Signal Box.
The tall signal box at the south end of the station, east side of the line was Kittybrewster South box. The lower part was built in stone and upper in timber.
The south box closed in 1967 when the south junction was taken out.
The station closed to passengers in 1968.
The line was singled between Aberdeen and Dyce in 1971. ie singled in both directions (the southbound line was lifted), as was the Waterloo line. The northbound platform remains, out of use. Nothing else of the station remains. Much of the land round the former station is now in other uses and it may be challenging to reopen.
The line has been redoubled (2019) although south from the former station to Aberdeen remains single track due to clearances and the work which would be required to bring the railway up to modern double track standards.
