This siding was laid south of Newcraighall to provide a turnback for trains terminating at the station. It was laid on the west side of the line and was approached from the north. This siding kept the lines to Millerhill Yard clear as the new station was built on the northbound line from the yard.
The siding was replaced by a new siding on a curve which ran to the location which is now Newcraighall south Junction. This was later extended south as the Millerhill Deviation (Network Rail).
