This was a two platform station, more typical of the stations on the northern section of the line. The main station building was on the west/northbound platform. To its west was the footbridge connecting to the eastbound platform with the taller than usual signal box.
There was a goods yard so the south of the line, approached from the west.
The loop here had a chequered history, it opened with the line and the box closed in 1921. A new loop extended further west opened during the Second World War, in 1941, but the new box closed in 1950. The station closed in 1956 but re-opened between 1960 and 1964 as a single platform station.
The surviving platforms are in concrete. Station buildings have not survived and the track has been slewed for a straighter alignment which serves neither platform. The station agent's house still stands at the east end of the station, south side of the line, much extended.
