Woodhill Signal Box (1877-1965)

Opened on the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock and Ayr Railway.

Description

This signal box was north west of Kilmarnock on the original main line from Glasgow via Dalry.

The box, dating from 1877, was on the south side of the line.

Going west there were lines to (from north to south):
- Woodhill Colliery No 8 Pit and Woodhill Colliery No 9 Pit - Woodhill Carriage Sidings - the main line to Crosshouse
Going east the lines were to
- Hillhead Fire Clay Works (passing under the Glasgow and Kilmarnock Joint Railway)
- the main line to Kilmarnock - Bonnyton Fire Clay Works and Bonnyton Colliery No 6 Pit (this line was to the south of the box.

The box closed in 1965. The railway closed in 1973 although retained until 1989 as a engineer's line.

The trackbed is now a footpath.
