Rail staff could refuse to work on trains to and from Balloch this summer unless anti-social behaviour is curbed by the authorities, a union official has warned.
The RMTs regional organiser for Scotland, Mick Hogg, issued the warning last week and said that rising crime levels mean it could only be a matter of time before a rail worker is seriously injured or killed as a result of thugs using train services. Hundreds of commuters are having to make alternative travel arrangements this morning after a vital rail line through Dumbarton and the Vale was closed.

Politicians have slammed the move, however ScotRail say that it will allow more staff to be deployed on services - making the railway safer.

Balloch was the second worst hit station in the local authority area, behind Dalmuir, recording seven counts of violent and sexual offences, three of criminal damage/fire-raising, two for drugs, one for theft and one for other crime.
