ScotWays (The Scottish Rights of Way & Access Society) is appealing for information from people who have used the Ben Alder level crossing to access long-distance routes west of Dalwhinnie in the Highlands. This is part of continuing efforts to resolve the problems created by Network Rails closure of the level crossing.

Previous actions have included a public petition signed by over 9000 people, meetings with Network Rail and an open letter from multiple organisations to the Transport Minister.

Highland mainline closed at Dalwhinnie due to deep snow, Network Rail Scotland confirms; snow also causing issues at Slochd, Tomatin and Moy passing loops; disruption comes amid yellow and amber snow warnings from the Met Office.

The Highland main rail line is currently closed at Dalwhinnie because it is blocked by drifting snow.

Customers are being advised to postpone their journey if they can and there are no coaches services running from Badenoch and Strathspey or Inverness.

Network Rail has said it is trying to secure a locomotive to clear the snowdrifts on the route between Drummochter and Inverness.

A trunk road bridge will be out of action for more than a fortnight with 18-miles detour in place. During the closures all traffic will be diverted via the A9 to Kingussie and the A86 to Laggan. Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland's North West Representative said: 'This £235,000 project for the A889 Dalwhinnie Rail Bridge will see the removal of the temporary road barriers and traffic lights on the structure, and replacing them with permanent, safer and more reliable fixtures.'
