A road section south of Inverness will be temporarily closed to traffic to allow for the inspection of a railway bridge next week.

Despite the impact of Strom Arwen, Network Rail has successfully demolished and replaced the bridge over the railway at Lynebeg, south of Inverness on the Highland Mainline between Perth and Inverness. Its part of supporting work ahead of the dualling of the A9 between Tomatin and Moy.

Video footage showing the first major structure to be constructed as part of the A9 Dualling: Tomatin to Moy project has been released by Network Rail, on behalf of Transport Scotland.

The time lapse footage reveals the demolition of the original 1884 masonry arch rail bridge at Lynebeg, near Inverness, followed by the successful installation of the new structure during a 78 hour possession of the Highland Mainline.

A report on the derailment of a train travelling from Inverness to Edinburgh is critical of Network Rail.

Six passengers and two staff were slightly injured when the train ran into a landslip at a cutting in Moy, Inverness-shire, last November.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) said the rail infrastructure company had not identified the drainage risks in the area.
