A multi-million pound signalling control suite has been switched on for the first time at Gosforth Metro depot as part of the countdown to the new fleet entering service for customers. The newly built facility will be used by Stadler to safely manage Metro train movements between the depot and the mainline, replacing an ageing control room in the old depot which had technology dating back to the 1980s.

Stadler has started moving its workforce into the new Gosforth Metro depot as the £70m facility nears completion. The depot, which will be home to the new Tyne and Wear Metro train fleet, is almost ready to become operational, with the finishing touches being put to the building. It will be a modern new facility for Stadler staff, one that will transform Metro train care, heralding a bright future for the network.

The first sections of new sidings have been completed at Gosforth Metro depot as part of the ongoing £70m project to completely rebuild it.

A new smartphone app has been launched to keep the community up to date with the £70m project to rebuild the Tyne and Wear Metro Depot.

A new temporary Metro Depot in North Tyneside has welcomed its first train ahead of it becoming fully operational at the end of the month.
Nexus, the public body which owns and manages Metro, has successfully ran a test train into the new maintenance workshop, which is located at Howdon. The former landfill site has been transformed into a new temporary home for Metro - and its now almost ready to open. Howdon depot will be used for the cleaning and preparation of up to a quarter of the current Metro fleet while the main Metro depot at Gosforth in Newcastle is completely rebuilt at a cost of £70m.
