A furious councillor is urging CalMac to charter a boat from Largs Yacht Haven to avoid Cumbrae residents being stranded on the island and missing vital medical appointments.

The MV Loch Shira is set to return to service on January 31 following completion of her dry docking schedule.

Cumbrae community councillors have called for an end to cleaning breaks on the ferry service between the island and Largs.

The construction of new Cumbrae ferry is to start within a year in a move welcomed by local MSP Kenneth Gibson.
