A new restaurant and bar in a Borders railway station is to become both a destination venue and a village focal point after it was given a green light to go full steam ahead.

Community projects across Scotland's Railway have benefited from almost £4million of investment in recent years. Among those to receive a funding boost was Stow Station House on the Borders Railway. The new Shibumi Karate Club Training Station at Saltcoats also benefited from funding.

A community trust restoration and refurbishment project that breathed fresh life into a Borders railway station building is celebrating two key award wins.

Railway stations can form a huge part of local communities throughout the UK and have huge potential to help regenerate villages, towns and cities up and down the country.

A 173-year-old station building originally earmarked for demolition during reconstruction of the Borders Railway is being restored as a bar/kitchen in a village that has no pub.

Work is set to begin to bring the Stow Rail Station House back into community use.
Hawick builder James Swinton and Co has been appointed to deliver the ambitious vision for the historic Station House, which will include a bar/bistro with community facilities and a new social enterprise cycling business. Work will begin this month, with August 2020 the target opening date for the new facility.
