Hawick North Signal Box: A freight climbs north out of Hawick on 8 June 1962. The locomotive is Canal A3 Pacific no 60068 Sir Visto and the train the 11.35am Carlisle - Craiginches. At the bottom of the hill in front of the train lies part of the town's sewage works.
Newcastle Central: Stopping for a spell! B1 4-6-0 61019 stands alongside the platform at Newcastle Central with a freight in June 1963. The locomotive was delivered new to Heaton shed in February 1947 carrying the name 'Nilghai'. Unfortunately, whichever book of antelope names was used by Darlington Works got this one wrong, as the correct spelling for the large Indian antelope is 'Nilgai', although in Asia it can sometimes be spelt Nilgau. Just to complicate matters, many of the Ian Allan locomotive listings of the 1950s and 60s used the spelling 'Nilghal'.
Gateshead Shed: Gresley V3 tank 67628 stands at the head of a line of locomotives at Gateshead in June 1963.

Hawick [2nd]: 'Old shovel-rim' at Hawick in 1965. The unique Gresley V2 2-6-2 no 60813, fitted with stove-pipe chimney and small 'shovel-rim' smoke deflectors, stands alongside the up platform water column at Hawick in the summer of 1965. The locomotive was a regular sight on the Waverley route while operating from St Margarets shed in the 1950s and early 1960s before being finally withdrawn by BR from Dundee Tay Bridge in September 1966. 60813 was cut up in McWilliams yard, Shettleston, in November of that year. A temporary bridge has been installed during the works providing access via the Princes Mall shopping centre see image [[9657]].
Edinburgh Waverley: The north side of Waverley on 8 June 2006, with the new Balmoral platform under construction on the left. The passenger about to disappear through the hole in the wall will soon reappear in the Princes Mall retail complex, this being the current route between the station and Princes Street via the temporary bridge. The stripped down deck of the original bridge stands just beyond, with the exit to Waverley Steps sealed off. See image [[9657]]
Haymarket: Distractions apparently occur on the Haymarket platform 0 project in hot weather due to ladies from nearby offices sunbathing on the adjacent grass verge. I actually noticed several myself... 8 June 2006
Haymarket: Looking west from Haymarket platform 1 on 8 June 2006 with work in progress on the run-in to the new platform 0 which will take over part of the station car park (makes a nice change) behind the blue barrier.

Bowling [CR]: View west along Scott Avenue, Bowling, in June 2010, showing the frontage of the former Lanarkshire and Dumbartonshire railway station, almost 50 years after closure to passengers. The structure has since been modified to accommodate a number of private storage units. The trackbed here now forms part of a popular walkway, accessed via a path just beyond the far end of the building (see [[29943]]).
Clydebank Riverside: The former booking office at Clydebank Riverside, seen here standing in the rain in June 2010, more than 45 years after closure to passengers. The redundant railway building has been refurbished and converted for use as domestic accommodation. Photographed looking north across Cunard Street.
Clydebank Riverside: A rainy day in Clydebank, looking north west at the corner of Cunard Street and Atlas Street in 2010. The scrollwork on the balcony incorporating the initials of the Caledonian Railway reveals the building was once more than the converted and renovated domestic accommodation it is today. It is in fact part of the old station building that was once Clydebank Riverside. The station closed to passengers in October 1964.
Bowling [CR]: Frontage of the former L&D station at Bowling (closed in February 1951) looking east along Scott Avenue on 8 June 2010. The 1896 building is currently used as lock-up garages and storage facilities. The path leading up to the trackbed, now a walkway/cycleway, is to the left of the skip. See image [[29943]]
Bowling [CR]: The overgrown island platform of the former L&D station at Bowling, closed in 1951. View east towards Glasgow along what is now a walkway and cycle route on 8 June 2010. On the other side of the platform a path links the walkway with Scott Avenue, where the station frontage survives see image [[29459]]. [Ref query 22 February 2019]
Bowling [CR]: Site of the former L&D station at Bowling (closed 1951) looking east towards Glasgow in June 2010. The overgrown mound in the centre is the remains of the island platform. To the right is the path leading down from what is now a walkway/cycleway to the exit on Scott Avenue where the station frontage still survives see image [[29459]].
Craigendoran Pier: Standing on the station footbridge at Craigendoran in light rain on 8 June 2010. Photograph looking west over the site of the former pier platform and beyond across the Clyde towards Gourock. See image [[66867]]
Craigendoran: The 1340 from Helensburgh Central calls at Craigendoran, the first stop on its journey to Airdrie, on a rainy 8 June 2010. The photograph is taken from the trackbed of the line that once branched left here onto the pier platform.
Craigendoran Upper: Entrance to Craigendoran station from Dennistoun Crescent on the north side of the line in June 2010. The tunnel passes below the West Highland tracks and opens out onto the station's remaining operational platform. The Clyde can be seen beyond.
Bowling [CR]: Entrance to the L&D station at Bowling from Scott Avenue, seen here looking north in June 2010, nearly 60 years after closure. The overgrown island platform beyond the wall above now stands alongside a popular walkway see image [[67735]].
Bowling [CR]: The attractive red sandstone facade of the former L&D station at Bowling (closed in 1951) seen here looking east towards Glasgow in the summer of 2010. The trackbed, running at a higher level off to the left, is now a popular walkway. See image [[67735]]
Bowling Swing Bridge: The former swing bridge that carried the L&D over the western end of the Forth and Clyde Canal at Bowling, crossing the waterway between the upper and lower basins. The bridge, completed in 1896, was notable for its elevated signal box which spanned the lines, as shown at [[53358]]. The box was carried on a steel gantry mounted on the two northern piers, one of which, topped by its four support plinths, stands on the right. Photograph taken in June 2010 looking south from the access road off the A814.
Craigendoran: A walk along the trackbed of the line that once ran out onto Craigendoran Pier. Photograph taken on a wet day in June 2010, with a grey mist hanging over the Clyde. Meantime, over on the right, an early afternoon service from Helensburgh Central is about to make the first stop on its journey to Airdrie.
Clydebank Riverside: Entrance to the booking office at the former Clydebank Riverside station on a wet 8 June 2010. The words 'Booking Office' are picked out in bas-relief above the entrance doors on both sides of the taller module. View is north across Cunard Street.
Bowling Swing Bridge: The western end of the Forth and Clyde Canal at Bowling basin on 8 June 2010, looking towards the exit to the River Clyde. The route of the L&D (closed in 1964) crossed the waterway in the middle distance on the former swing bridge, followed immediately by a plate girder bridge spanning the Glasgow, Dumbarton & Helensburgh line. The old swing bridge once supported a signal box mounted above the tracks - see [[35890]].
Craigendoran: View south from the steps of the footbridge at Craigendoran on a miserable day in June 2010, with a light but steady rain falling and a sea mist hanging over the Clyde. Running across the bottom of the picture is the disused old westbound through platform, with the site of the former pier platform and remains of the pier itself in the background. See image [[24286]]
Bowling Swing Bridge: View over a crowded canal basin at Bowling at the western end of the Forth and Clyde Canal in June 2010. Running across the centre is the route of the former Lanarkshire & Dumbartonshire Railway which crossed bridges over the canal, a railway and a road here within the space of 250 yards. The bridge over the canal (originally a swing bridge) can be seen on the right (for a closer view see image [[29307]].)
Bowling [CR]: After crossing the Forth and Clyde Canal at Bowling basin see image [[29307]] the westbound high level L&D line then crossed the Glasgow, Dumbarton & Helensburgh route on a lengthy plate girder viaduct. Part of the old viaduct is seen here on 6 June looking towards Dumbarton through the chain- link fence alongside the access road to the canal basin.
Craigendoran Pier: A grey and misty morning on the Clyde at Craigendoran in the summer of 2010, looking west from the present day station out along the route of the former pier platform.
Craigendoran: Passenger entrance on the north side of Craigendoran station, seen from the opposite (out of use) platform in June 2010. The subway passes below the West Highland line, beyond which stand the houses of Dennistoun Crescent.
Clydebank Riverside: The 1896 main station building at Clydebank Riverside, closed in October 1964. The photograph was taken on 8 June 2010 looking south west during heavy rain. The building has been sympathetically renovated and converted to residential accomodation. The fact that the former station faces onto Cunard Street should give more than a hint as to what once took place along this part of the River Clyde.
Rosyth Dockyard: The little-used tracks leading to Rosyth Dockyard on the evening of 8 June 2011. Trains may return if Babcock Rosyth is successful with plans for an international container terminal. In the background is the Chinese-built 1000 tonne capacity 'Goliath' crane, being prepared for use in assembling aircraft carriers.
Stourbridge Junction: Interior view of Parry People Mover 139001 approaching Stourbridge Junction. There are 25 seats with room for 35 standing. Now two years old the PPM is still pristine inside and out.
Whitchurch (Cardiff): Coryton Station can be seen in this view from the next station down the line at Whitchurch in June 2011. Note how the track moves from the normal up side position on the branch to the down side for the final stop. [With thanks to all respondents]
Birmingham Moor Street: The reinstated bay platforms at Birmingham Moor St, which also have a restored water column, water tower and period signs and lamps. In this view looking south a Chiltern Class 168 is leaving for Marylebone on a service from Snow Hill.
Ty Glas: Long distance view of Ty Glas station on the Coryton branch from Caerphilly Road overbridge at the south end of Birchgrove Station. Barriers are visible indicating closure of the foot crossing at Ty Glas, as crossing boards had been lifted. (This did not stop a constant stream of pedestrians from ignoring the barriers and walking across the ballast to avoid a lengthy detour, despite myself and an ATW cleaning team being on site in Hi-Vis.)
Coryton: Present day 'end of the line' at Coryton station in 2011. The station was once a stopping point on the former through route between Heath Low level and Taffs Well.
Stourbridge Junction: Conventional (but soon to be replaced) stock at Stourbridge Junction as 3-car Sprinter 150015 calls on a London Midland service to Dorridge via Snow Hill. The 'Parry People Mover' shuttle to the Town station leaves from the opposite side of this island platform. See image [[34453]] and these Snow Hill services were expected to go over to Class 172 stock later in the year.
Stourbridge Junction: The Parry People Mover Class 139 arrives at Stourbridge Junction passing over the now little used connection to the main line as seen from the end of the platform. In 2010, whilst operating 6 return trips per hour, the two PPMs achieved 99.4% reliability while the flywheel technology means they also used very little fuel. Similar figures are being achieved in 2011 including 100% in April.
Stourbridge Town: The Parry People Mover, 139001, at the Stourbridge Town terminus on 8 June after another run down the short branch from Stourbridge Junction. This flywheel driven vehicle is one of two used by London Midland for the ten-minute interval branch services. The current terminus lies just short of the original Town station See image [[18995]] with the platform on the opposite side of the line.
Birmingham Moor Street: The reopened and restored bay platforms at Moor Street station, looking towards the buffers in June 2011. The attention to period detail throughout the renovation of this busy commuter station is striking. The Bull Ring tower in the background overlooks the south end of Birmingham New Street and illustrates how close to each other the two stations are situated. See image [[48181]] for the same scene ten years earlier.
Stourbridge Town: Drivers console in Parry People Mover 139001 waiting to leave Stourbridge Town for Stourbridge Junction. PPMs are powered by a flywheel and the left hand dial is the flywheel rev counter. This is spooled up by an input from the engine or by regenerative braking and the revs could be seen climbing as the unit dropped down to the branch terminus. The flywheel, seen here turning at 2000RPM prior to departure, then powers the vehicle back up the hill to the junction. The Class 139 unit makes six return trips an hour on the branch and must be very economical in fuel use compared to its Class 153 predecessor, which operated a fifteen minute interval service.
Hengoed High Level: The restored and reversed running in board alongside the westbound platform at the former Hengoed High Level station (closed 1964). Photographed from a passing train in the Low Level station in June 2011.
Jewellery Quarter: With the opening of the Midland Metro tramway in 1999 there were four tracks again on a section of the old GWR main line from Snow Hill to Wolverhampton. With Hockley tunnels just ahead, Tram No.4 calls at Jewellry Quarter on its way to Birmingham. The main line platforms lie just to the right of this picture See image [[34473]].
Rhymney: 142073 and a sister unit wait at the platform at Rhymney prior to returning south with the 17.29 service to Penarth on the afternoon of 8 June 2011. The refurbished stabling sidings and run round loop stand on the right.
Jewellery Quarter: A place that has seen many changes over the years, Jewellry Quarter was originally just a location on a four track GWR main line (although there was a station at nearby Hockley). Later the line was downgraded and in 1972 it closed altogether, only to reopen for Snow Hill to Stourbridge trains in 1994 when this station was opened. The next phase was the opening of the Midland Metro tramway in 1999, at which time two further platforms were built See image [[34474]]. 150015 pulls away on a London Midland service to Dorridge and heads in to the Hockley tunnels.
Birmingham Moor Street: Birmingham Moor St is not a particularly imposing terminus from the outside but there is a wealth of period detail once through the entrance. The station has also been expanded in recent years with bay platforms reinstated. This June 2011 view is from the walkway that leads from the nearby New St. Station.
Wolverhampton St. Georges: Metro tram No. 15 is seen at the Wolverhampton town centre terminus, known as St Georges, shortly after arrival from Birmingham Snow Hill on 8 June 2011. Most of the tram route follows the course of the old Great Western main line from Snow Hill, but from Priestfield into Wolverhampton is a street running section.
Wolverhampton St. Georges: Midland Metro tram 04 arrives at the Wolverhampton St. Georges terminus on an early evening service from Birmingham Snow Hill in June 2011. Although the station was built for two track working, and a possible extension, all trams arrive and depart from the same platform. Most of the route follows the old GWR main line except for a short street running section from Priestfield to the Wolverhampton terminus. See image [[34444]]
Stourbridge Junction: Parry People Mover 139001 waits for connecting passengers at Stourbridge Junction. Behind the unit one of the smaller traction depots on the mainline network can be seen. SJ has an allocation of just two Class 139 PPMs. The station itself was once in poor condition but is now well maintained. See image [[13205]] for the same view in 1974.
Birmingham Moor Street: GWR details are everywhere at Birmingham Moor Street. Two Chiltern trains occupy the through lines under restored canopies and footbridge. 168002 on the left is heading for Snow Hill while 168108 is on a Marylebone service.
Wolverhampton Low Level: After a long period of semi-dereliction the listed, blue brick Great Western Low Level station at Wolverhampton is under restoration for retail, hotel and residential use. It survived passenger closure in 1972 as a parcels depot. This view looks south from the collonade arches under Wolverhampton High Level, showing just how close the two stations are situated. See image [[28115]]
Cardiff Central: Freightliner 66605 waits at signals at the west end of Cardiff Central station on 8 June 2011. Once the section cleared the train took the Barry line - no doubt heading for Lafarge at Aberthaw - with cement / PFA tanks.
Cambridge, Parker's Piece: 'Starlight' is a 10-1/4 inch gauge model, approximating (according to its constructor-owner) to an LNER V2 locomotive. It is seen here giving rides along track specially laid close to the city centre on 'Parker's Piece' as part of the annual Cambridge Town and Country Fair. Model and full size traction engines were also on show - as well as the 1954 caravan to the right.
Trumpington: So that's where all the sleepers went - twelve wooden sleepers surround a holographic screen displaying a moving image of a nonplussed cat. A good thing to have at a Park and Ride, I'm sure you'll agree. The bus in the background took me to Cambridge along the guided busway; the former trackbed to Bedford was just out of shot to the right.
Trumpington: A bus passenger's view of the road bridge see image [[43348]] at the exit to Trumpington Park and Ride site. The drivers on the guided busway all seem to be friendly and cheerful.
Dilston Crossing: Running eastwards through the Tyne Valley a train of coal from Scotland approaches Corbridge station hauled by a DBS Class 66. This view was taken from Corbridge Old Roman Town, an English Heritage site to the west of the present day town. The River Tyne, although quite wide at this point, is hidden in the dip between the fields.
Allendale: Originally planned to run to the top of the valley at Allenheads the Allendale Railway didn't even reach the small town of that name but petered out around a mile short. What should have become Catton Road station when the line was completed remained as Allendale with a sparse passenger service that finished in 1930. After goods traffic finished (in 1950) the building became part of a caravan park. View from alongside the buffer stops in June 2013.
Alston: Taken as a direct Then and Now comparison to a photograph I took at Alston in 1976 see image [[19590]] this picture shows resident 0-4-0T Thomas Edmondson. The steam loco is running round prior to taking a South Tynedale Railway train northwards along the old branch.
Cambridge South Junction: Comparing this recent picture to four years ago see image [[26247]], it is clear that a great deal of remedial brickwork has been carried out on this bridge at Trumpington, as well as laying the surface of the Guided Busway beneath it. View looks towards Cambridge in June 2013.
Allenheads: Although the Allendale branch from Hexham never reached Allenheads there was railway activity at the top of the valley in the lead mines. This battery mine locomotive and short train outside the village Heritage Centre serve as a reminder of that old industry.
Langley: Now trading as The Garden Station, Langley on the former Allendale branch is a very popular cafe and art studio. The building, last used by passengers in 1930, is still in excellent condition.
Leyland: One of the occasions on which Freightliner Class 86s make a daylight appearance on the WCML in Lancashire is the Saturday lunchtime Coatbridge to Crewe service. On 8 June 2013 86627 double heads another member of the class on the Up slow line at Leyland.
Lubeck: DB shunter 295-019-4 at work in the goods yard at Lubeck on the evening of 8th June 2014.
Fort Edmonton Park [Alberta]: Although in the livery of Edmonton Yukon & Pacific this 1919 Baldwin 2-6-2 spent its working life at the Industrial Lumber Co in Oakdale, Louisiana. Now fuelled by oil rather than wood, since 1977 it has been used within the Fort Edmonton Heritage Park to transport visitors from the entrance to the replica 1846 fort.
Ravenstonedale: An interesting dry-stone walled cutting on the NER (SDLUR) route from Tebay to Kirkby Stephen, approx. 1 mile east of Ravenstonedale Station. Sandy Bank signal cabin was immediately west of this cutting and marked the transition from double track (west) to single (east), until 1931. Closed to regular passenger traffic in 1952, heavy mineral trains continued until 1962 ensuring supplies of coke from the Durham coalfield to the Iron and Steel industry of Barrow and west Cumberland. Summer excursion traffic from Durham, Newcastle and Sunderland to Blackpool continued to be routed over Barnard Castle, Stainmore, Kirkby Stephen and Tebay until closure of the line. Additionally a Durham Miners Special ran once a fortnight conveying injured miners to convalesce at Conishead Priory.
Sandy Bank Signal Box: The remains of lonely and isolated Sandy Bank signal cabin on the old NER ( SDLUR) route from Tebay to Kirkby Stephen and Barnard Castle in June 2015. Sited approx 1 mile east of Ravenstonedale and at the summit of the Tebay/Kirkby Stephen section ( Altitude 890 ft). The cabin closed in 1931 when the double track section was cut back to Ravenstonedale. Final closure of the line came in 1962.
Smardale Gill Viaduct: Smardale Gill Viaduct on the SDLUR trackbed between Tebay and Kirkby Stephen in June 2015. Percy Beck, Tees, Deepdale, (the mighty) Belah, Hatygill, Merrygill, Podgill, Smardale Gill... Bouch had his work cut out on this line.
Barlow Moor Road: The first stop on the Manchester Airport tram line is Barlow Moor Road. Metrolink 3095, heading towards the city, leaves the Hardy Lane street running section and pulls in to the new station on 8th June 2015.
Burton Road: Metrolink 3066 calls at Burton Road in Didsbury with a service from Rochdale to East Didsbury. See image [[40061]] from 2012 when this tram station and the East Didsbury line were still under construction.
Zurich: Gottardo 2016. The livery of this locomotive is in celebration of the opening of the new Gotthard Base Tunnel on the 1st of June 2016.
Interlaken Ost: A BOB train (Berner Oberland Bahn) at Interlaken.
Canna Harbour: Loch Nevis heads back from Canna to Mallaig on 8th June 2016 (with the mountains of Rum in the distance).
Whitecraigs: A delightful recent photograph of the floral display at Whitecraigs station, one of many ScotRail stations to be 'adopted'.
Whitecraigs: Planters on the Neilston bound platform at Whitecraigs in June 2017.
Fridingen: On 8th June 2017 a lonely timber wagon sits in the freight yard at Fridingen an der Donau on the single-track Tuttlingen-Sigmaringen line, while an IRE service from Ulm disappears towards Donaueschingen.
Fridingen: Semaphore signals and the original station building survive at Fridingen on the Tuttlingen-Sigmaringen line in Baden-Wuerttemberg, seen here on 8th June 2017.
Whitecraigs: Another one of the planters at Whitecraigs station in June 2017.
Princes Street Gardens Cutting: At the foot of the Castle Rock one of the hourly electric services to Glasgow Queen Street is about to enter Haymarket South Tunnel. The (slightly restricted) view is from St Cuthbert's churchyard. As an Edinburgensian I'm slightly ashamed to admit that I've only just discovered that this view is possible.
Llwyfan Cerrig: Gwili Railway train heading north to Danycoed at Llwyfan Cerrig, looking back south, on 9th June 2018. The station building here came from the former Felin Fach station on the Lampeter to Aberaeron branch, which was an offshoot of the line that the Gwili Railway now partially utilises. That line opened on 12th May 1851 and was closed to passengers one week short of its 100th anniversary on 7th May 1951 with freight finishing in 1963.
Bradkirk Junction: Northern 319384 heads towards Kirkham & Wesham with a Manchester service from Blackpool North in June 2018. On the left is the remains of the line that ran to Blackpool Central, closed in 1964 but latterly used as an engineers siding serving Kirkham tip. The remodelling of tracks at Kirkham prior to electrification saw the siding disconnected although much of the track still seemed to be present under vegetation during this visit.
Baillieston: The new overbridge in early June 2018. The service ducts can be seen running near the right parapet. The bridge is due to open to traffic in September when diversion of utility services is complete.
Lytham Old Junction: Looking east towards Kirkham North Junction a Northern Class 319 heads to Blackpool North on 08 June 2018. This was the site of Lytham Old Jct where a line swung right (west to south) to connect with the line to Lytham and Blackpool South Shore. To the right of the dirt track, the remains of the line to Blackpool Central part of which latterly served Kirkham and Wesham Tip for the civil engineers. Some rails and sleepers are still in place although disconnected from the main line at Kirkham North Jct.
Salwick: The 1735 hrs Preston to Blackpool South is one of the few services that calls at Salwick. On 08 June 2018 the guard is on the platform having released the doors but no one alighted and no one boarded. A few minutes later an eastbound service called and the guard asked me if I was travelling but since the next service back wasn't until the following day I politely declined.
Niddrie West Junction: Ongoing remedial work at Niddrie West on the morning of 8 June 2018 following a local subsidence problem. The up line remains closed between here and Niddrie South, with the down line, on which the container train is currently held, subject to a major speed restriction. It would be almost another week before work was fully completed and traffic began to return to normal
Cambridge: One of Greater Anglia’s new sets alongside the Arriva Train Care depot in Cambridge on 8th June 2019.
Pittencrieff Park: Fife Coal Company no 29 (AB 0-4-0ST 1996 of 1934) at Pittencrieff Park, Dunfermline, on 8 June 2019. The pug had ended its operational life at NCB Bilston Glen Colliery, Loanhead, in the 1970s before being moved to Pittencrieff Park. It was subsequently refurbished by the Shed 47 restoration group at the former RNSD Lathalmond see image [[36789]].
Cambridge: Brand new Greater Anglia unit 755406 stabled outside the Traincare Depot in Cambridge on 8th June 2019.
Mount Florida: 380018, and partner, disgorge football fans from a Glasgow Central - Mount Florida shuttle on 8 June 2019. For those who are interested, Scotland beat Cyprus 2-1.
Kirkby: Looking at the buffer stops on the Merseyrail side of Glovers Brow road bridge, Kirkby as a Northern service to Manchester departs from the platform on the other side. The walkway between the two platforms juts out into the formation and, following the incident on 13 March 2021 when 507006 crashed through the buffers, has been completely rebuilt and the buffer stop replaced
Hall Road: 507012 and 508111 arrive at Hall Road on 8 June 2021, with a Southport to Hunts Cross service. There is a contrast in architecture with the traditional L&Y buildings on the up platform and modern shelters opposite. The site of the former Hall Road EMU shed was on the left, now replaced by housing.
Orrell Park: With deliveries of their Class 777 replacements continuing the 507 and 508 EMUs are in the twilight of their long careers. 507028 departs from Orrell Park on an Ormskirk to Liverpool Central service on 8 June 2021.
Walton Merseyside: A Liverpool Central to Ormskirk service with 507032 departs from Walton on 08 June 2021. Beyond the footbridge the train will pass under Hornby Road. To the left on that road is Walton Jail.
Southport: 25kV EMUs at Southport? Well yes but these units are two of the Class 319s fitted with diesel engines and alternators so that they can operate away from the wires. 769448 on the left formed the 1517 hrs service to Alderley Edge while 769434 formed the 1531 hrs to Stalybridge on 8 June 2021.
Rice Lane: 507007 departs from Rice Lane with a service to Kirkby on 8 June 2021. Rice Lane is (just) on the Kirkby line immediately after the point where it diverges from the Ormskirk route. The station was called Preston Road until 1984.
Old Roan: Merseyrail 507007 arrives at Old Roan on 8 June 2021 with an Ormskirk to Liverpool service. The platforms here are on an embankment so the lift shafts and stairs take you down to an underpass to exit the station.
Fazakerley: 507015 calls at Fazakerley on 8 June 2021, whilst on a Liverpool Central to Kirkby service. The ticket office is on the right behind the camera on Longmoor Lane and has ramps and lifts at footbridge level to connect with the platforms.
Blundellsands and Crosby: A Southport to Hunts Cross service calls at Blundellsands and Crosby on 8 June 2021. As appeared usual on Southport line services this was a 6-car unit with 508128 leading 507008.
Lostock Hall: A Northern service from Leeds to Blackpool passes Lostock Hall on 8 June 2021. 195130 is about to pass under Watkin Lane road bridge in the background.
Cardross: PS Waverley heading downriver to the Tail of the Bank. A mixture of wind, steam and electrical power is on show.
Kirkdale: One of Merseyrail's new Class 777s from Stadler sits in the sun on 8 June 2021. 777008 is one of five of these units seen on Kirkdale depot while others are stored at Old Walton's Jct near Warrington. Some test runs on the Merseyrail network have been reported but it was only around the depot that they moved during my time at the station. Of note these units are 4-car but they are around the same length as the 3-car Class 507s and 508s they will replace. They also feature articulated bogies.
Kirkdale: A view west over Kirkdale Depot from the station footbridge on 8 June 2021. Prominent in the view is 507006 that was involved in the Kirkby incident on 13 March 2021 with the damaged cab covered by a tarpaulin. Five Class 777s are also in the photo with the one on the left in front of the new Stadler building.
Aintree: 507019 arrives at Aintree on 8 June 2021 with a Liverpool Central to Ormskirk service. Aintree racecourse is across the A59 road to the left of the photo [[58181]].
