Victoria Swing Bridge [Leith]: Performing today’s (08/06/2024) unveiling at the official reopening by Forth Ports, National Transport Trust vice-chair John Cameron CBE said that, completed in 1874, the Grade A-listed Victoria Swing Bridge, designed by Alexander Rendel, is the largest counterweighted swingbridge in Scotland, and until the completion of the Kincardine Bridge in 1936 is thought to have been the longest clear-swing bridge-span in Britain. Today it enjoys a quieter life as a route for walkers and cyclists through the regenerated Leith Docks, and Forth Ports are to be congratulated on their splendid refurbishment which will enable continued enjoyment of its graceful appearance by visitors including passers-by on the tram.
