Hale: The signal box at Hale is now redundant and the instruments have been stripped out but it still stands on the station platform overlooking the level crossing. The colour light signals and barriers are now controlled from Deansgate Junction, just north of Altrincham. This view towards Manchester on 23rd July 2024.

Highgate: Archway Road entrance to Highgate station, LU Northern Line, completed and opened for trains in 1941 although the extension from what is now Archway to East Finchley had opened in 1939 and the incomplete station used as an air raid shelter from 1940. Seen from passing no. 134 bus on 22nd April 2024. Deep in the cutting behind the trees is the abandoned High Level station that was rebuilt in the 1930s for the Alexandra Palace electrification, also as part of the Northern Line extension project, held in abeyance in 1939 and never completed after 1945, thereby wasting over £1 million in the process. It eventually closed in 1954.

North Grimston Viaduct: Looking east towards the location of the former North Grimston Viaduct, with the chamfered embankment on either side of the farm track leading to Bellmanear Farm showing where it was sited. The viaduct is only around 1/2 mile north of North Grimston, being almost equidistant from the other side of the B1248 to that station. John McIntyre posted an old 'before' view showing the viaduct when it was still in situ.

Toddington: BR Class 45 45149 provided the diesel traction on services at the G&WR on 28th July 2024. A pleasant surprise as I have not seen a working Peak for many a year. Here the blue loco is running into Toddington.

Kelvinhall [Subway]: This was the last photo that I took on the Subway, at Kelvin Hall (Partick Cross) on 22nd March 2023. Is it a sign of my age that I still think of these units as 'the new trains'?

Scorton [Lancashire] [2nd]: West Coast Railway's 86401 'Mons Meg', still in Caledonian Sleeper blue, heads north at Scorton with empty Northern Belle stock returning from Euston to Carnforth on 28th July 2024. The previous day the stock had been used on an excursion from Euston to Carlisle, steam hauled from Carnforth by 34067 'Tangmere'. 47848 was on the rear of the train on both days.
