This junction was controlled by a ground frame. The east fork of the Forfar and Brechin Railway met the former Aberdeen Railway branch to Brechin at a junction which allowed running from the Forfar line to Bridge of Dun bypassing Brechin. Land was taken on this fork for two tracks, the same as the rest of the Forfar and Brechin Railway, although only one line was laid (the westbound, had it been doubled). The bridge by Drumachlie was built to carry two lines.
There were catch points to prevent runaways from the branch.
The link from Brechin North Junction to Brechin East Junction opened in 1895 and closed in 1917, although a short portion of the line was retained as a siding at the Brechin North Junction end. The portion lifted was for the Great War effort.
East of the former junction are two C listed road bridges. The first, the approach to Leuchland Farm, passes over the line and further east the line passes over the approach to Windyedge Farm.
