Dawsholm Quay

Location type

Name and dates

Dawsholm Quay

Description

This quay was located on the north side of the Forth and Clyde Canal, just west of the Kelvin Aqueduct. Coal was unloaded here and taken by rail over Skaethorn Road to a headshunt west of Dawsholm Gas Works which could be reached by reversal.

Coal came by canal from pits to the east such as Twechar Colliery Pit No 1 and Twechar Colliery Pit No 2 (owned by Bairds).

The quayside still exists, very overgrown and one of the abutments of the bridge over Skaethorn Road can found.
