Dumfries ShedOpened on the Glasgow, Dumfries and Carlisle Railway.
Description
This shed was east of Dumfries station on the east side of the line, roughly alongside where Dumfries [2nd] station was located - sited where its shed had been located (a three road shed). This single ended six road shed was approached from the south. It was designed by Andrew Galloway, with his noted high windows in the gable ends (rebuilt in brick and blocked off in the 1940s).
British Railways assigned the shed the code 68B and the sub shed Kirkcudbright Shed. It was later 67E.
The shed lost much of its purpose with the closure of the Portpatrick Railway in 1965. It closed to steam in 1966 and was demolished around later, possibly around 1981.
After closure the site was re-developed at a police headquarters.
