The 27th of August was the 30th anniversary of the opening of the Dornoch Bridge which connects Easter Ross with Sutherland. The bridge cut about 45 minutes and 30 miles from the journey. It cost £13.5m at the time - around £30m today. [Despite much discussion of a shortcut railway route via Dornoch, over the bridge, this did not go ahead. This could have partially used the trackbed of the former Dornoch branch. -RS]

Dornoch: Looking from track level along the platform to the well maintained and occupied station building at the former Dornoch Station, showing both structures still intact 53 years after closure.
