The route between Rutherglen and Exhibition Centre has re-opened following a 32m improvement project. The structural elements alone, including work at Anderston tunnel, saw engineers complete over 47,000 hours of work. The slab track work was made up of 19 separate sites, ten of which were to replace damaged sections of the top slab ranging from two to eight metres in length. This work extends the life of the existing slab and also reduces the risk of temporary speed restrictions being imposed. Principal contractors involved in delivery for the work include AMCO-Giffen, Story and Bam Nuttall.

Rail engineering works will cause ongoing weekend disruption for Ayrshire train travel. ScotRail says that due to engineering work, buses will replace all train services between Kilwinning and Paisley Gilmour Street for the next three weekends - and for a further four Sundays after that. The closure of the railway will affect people planning to travel on the Ayr-Glasgow, Ardrossan-Glasgow and Largs-Glasgow routes.
