A ferry that serves one of Mull's three routes has not been able to return to service following a routine refit.
The MV Isle of Mull had originally been due back on the Oban to Craignure route just after Christmas. But its time in dry dock in Aberdeen had to be extended to allow for work on an area of rust on its hull. It then broke down while passing through the Pentland Firth on Tuesday. CALMAC has redeployed a ferry from one of its busiest routes to help out as the breakdown of one of its oldest vessels has seen it sidelined for a fourth day.

Cammell Laird engineers have completed a major ferry repair project at the firm's Birkenhead yard.

The annual refit of the Mull ferry will go ahead in Liverpool next month, despite the city being in highest lockdown category in England. The planned maintenance is to be carried out at the Cammell Laird drydock yard on Merseyside, where the Scottish Government has had a repair contract for the CalMac fleet for many years.
