This line is closed. It ran west from Douglas to meet the existing Glasgow and South Western Railway branch to Muirkirk. It both blocked any further advance by that company and served several coal mines. There is an old joke related to the line 'Which two stations are the closest? Douglas and Glenbuck, there's only Inches between them.'
This line is divided into a number of portions.
This was the terminus of the Douglas Branch (Caledonian Railway) from Lanark. It remained a terminus until 1873 when the line extended to Muirkirk [2nd].
