ScotRail customers are being reminded that services will be significantly disrupted this week during the latest round of strike action by RMT members of Network Rail. The pay dispute does not involve ScotRail staff, however, it will have a major impact on the train operators ability to provide services as the RMT planned action involves Network Rail staff in Scotland. For ScotRail customers, this means a limited number of services will operate on a reduced number of routes for five days from Tuesday, 13 until Sunday, 18 December.

With the RMT, Aslef and TSSA coordinating strike action on Saturday 1 October, only around 11% of services will operate, and there will be no trains at all across significant parts of the country. Trains that do run will start later and finish much earlier than usual, so passengers are asked to only travel by rail if absolutely necessary. Those who must travel should expect disruption, plan ahead and check when their last train will depart. Train drivers at 14 operators are also walking out on Wednesday 5 October, meaning disruption for passengers on those routes. The RMT is then staging another walkout on Saturday 8 October. The timetable for the Aslef strike on 5 October will be published on National Rail Enquiries later this week, while the timetable for Saturday 8 October will be published early next week.

For ScotRail customers, this means a very limited number of services will operate on a limited number of routes.

A trade union boss has today written to Nicola Sturgeon demanding commitments to low fares and retaining station staff when Scotland's rail service returns to public ownership.
TSSA Leader, Manuel Cortes, says in a letter to the First Minister that it is utterly wrong-headed to think that cutting staff means more efficiency. He says that numbers are already stretched and further cuts will mean that short-notice cancellations become the norm. We need station and platform staff to help passengers with disabilities, parents with pushchairs, and elderly passengers on and off the train. More staff means a better railway for everyone, he says.
