This is a double track viaduct over the River Clyde, also known as Ferniegair Viaduct. The original 1856 single track viaduct began to fail around 1862 and was replaced. For many years the line carried considerable coal traffic, today it is on the Hamilton Circle line.
In 1868 the line over the viaduct opened to passengers from Ferniegair [2nd] to Motherwell. Prior to that Ferniegair had been the northern passenger terminus of the Lesmahagow Railway (the bridge not being used for passenger trains, only mineral and goods trains) and a connecting coach ran from Ferniegair [1st] to Hamilton station (now Hamilton West) from which a train could be caught to Glasgow South Side [CR].
Camp Colliery Junction was to the north east end of the viaduct and Ross Junction a little to the south west.
The viaduct remains open as part of the Hamilton Circle. The line here survived the rest of the Lesmahagow Railway as a connection between Ross Junction and Hamilton West created the route now known as the Hamilton Circle in 1876.
Note that the similarly named Camps Viaduct was on a completely different now closed railway near East Calder.
This location is named 'Camp', rather than Camps, thus the nearby Camp Road, Camp Hill, Camp Colliery Junction, Camp Colliery, Camp Siding, Camp Water Works and New Camp.
